Theory of the Derive

Theory of the Derive is the title of the passage that I read, and it was writen by a man named Guy Debord. I choose this reading to because of a passage or sentence that I really understood and took to heart. The sentence is "In a dérive one or more persons during a certain period drop their relations, their work and leisure activities, and all their other usual motives for movement and action, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there." The word derive means "drifting" and I know that I have derive in my lifetime. I just think that after reading a sentence like that and really paying attention the whole time in deep thought, you may never understand that. I beleive that it means if necessary take time for off and try not to do to much.

Although, the passage was a bit confusing at times I tried to keep up with Debord and figured out that some of the main points he talks about our everyday things, such as what he likes to call the "average duration of a dérive " is only one day. It is inbetween the two times you sleep during the day. So inbetween the morning and evening. Debord also talks about the condition of the weather and how that plays a big part in a derive, usually only if it rains though. " The spatial field of a dérive may be precisely delimited or vague, depending on whether the goal is to study a terrain or to emotionally disorient oneself".

I know that I am young and still have alot to learn so I really have no say yet as to weather or not I completly argree on Debords statements in his passage.
